Story of failing roof wins Vietnam Vet a new $27,500 roof for his Howell home
Howell, MI – 72 year old Bob Pasanen and his wife Robin knew their house needed some serious work, but on a fixed income the needed repairs were just not in their budget. That’s when Bob heard the American Metal Roofs contest commercial on the radio. “They said they were looking for the worst asphalt roof in Michigan and I thought mine just might qualify”, said Pasanen.
The radio commercial was part of a $27,500 free roof giveaway offered by American Metal Roofs (AMR), headquartered in Flint, Michigan. The contest was called “Tell Us Your Story” and the goal was to find a a homeowner who had an ugly, failing asphalt roof that could be replaced with a permanent American Metal Roof. “I was caught off guard by the entries we received,” said AMR president Frank Farmer. “We intended to bring to light the fact that today’s asphalt roofs are lasting only ten to twelve years when homeowners are expecting them to last twenty or thirty.”
But, as the contest judges worked on evaluating the stories that came in, they began to notice a trend. “There are a lot of folks who are really in a bind when it comes to replacing their roofs,” added Farmer. “In Bob and Robin’s case, they might have lost their house without a new roof. When the judges told me that they awarded the roof to the Pasanens, I knew it was a good choice.
The installation of Bob and Robin’s new roof was recently completed. “We couldn’t be happier. Mr. Farmer and his entire crew have been just wonderful. They saved our house...I don’t know what I would have done without them,” said Pasanen. “I’m glad we were able to help Bob out with this new roof. It seems the least we could do for a man who was willing to risk his life for his country,” added Farmer.
