Local Company Wins Inaugural Roofing Award
December 20, 2001
Metal roofing manufacturer Perfection Building Products, of Piqua, Ohio recently awarded the first ever Quarterly Star to American Roofs, Inc. of Flushing, Michigan. The award, which Perfection will select from among roofing projects submitted nationwide, will be presented four times per year to a metal roofing contractor that achieves an extraordinary level of quality, customer satisfaction, and beauty on a particular project.
Perfection chose American Roofs as the inaugural Quarterly Star winner for the company's roof installation on the Smith family lakefront home in Kewadin, Michigan. According to Todd Miller, President of Perfection, "American Roofs was chosen specifically for superior craftsmanship in dealing with challenge areas and for the finished project's overall attractiveness." Frank Fanner, owner of American Roofs, added, "The Country Manor Shake roof made a good-looking home into a showpiece."
The Smiths chose an aluminum Country Manor Shake roof both for its aesthetic appeal and to avoid snow build-up. A Country Manor Shake roof is able to shed snow when the aluminum reflects solar radiation that has passed through the accumulated snow. The reflected energy heats and melts the bottom layer of snow, allowing it to slide off the roof, preventing ice damming and the need for roof shoveling.
The roof installation was completed directly over existing 40-year warranted asphalt shingles that had only been in place for two years. The 3400 square foot roof included eight valleys, a twelve-foot stone chimney, six skylights and two bay windows.
